Saturday
We fished Saturday with Steve, Andy, Eric, Nam, and the rest of the Snap on crew. The weather was great and we enjoyed the company. The trolling bite was slow in the morning, so we tried some bottomfishing and were rewarded. Alot of the drops we made came up with double header tilefish. After we caught our limit of tiles we put the spread back out and Eric caught a 40lb citation wahoo on a bait that he rigged. Plenty of meat to take back to DC. Thanks.

Wind....
The weather has not cooperated at all for the last 10 days or so....The boats that did finally make it out today had good tuna fishing with most boats catching their limits of yellowfins with some blackfins mixed in. Another front moved through this afternoon that will keep everyone tied to the dock for the next few days. Depending on the weather we will be fishing on Saturday......

Sunday
We have been tied to the dock for the last 2 weeks waiting for the wind to quit blowing. Sunday, there was still a big swell in the ocean but no wind. We took Rick and his guys on the Country Girl. We waited in the inlet for 30 minutes with another 5 or 6 boats for the tide to come in and the bar to become more manageable. Once we finally got out we found a grass line, stayed on it all day and came up with a great catch of dolphin on light tackle. 260lbs Thanks

We went back to trolling and hooked another white marlin but he pulled the hook before we got to the leader......Also had a blue marlin in the flat lines but he wouldnt eat! Fun day with lots of action. Thanks.

Saturday
The Hopewell Angler's Club experienced some really good tuna fishing during thier annual angler's tournament Saturday. We started off fishing around birds and busting fish and caught 3 out of 5 yellowfin in the 50 pound class. Next was a single yellowfin, a small dolphin and then another single yellowfin. Another captain came on the radio and reported that he just hooked 8 bigeye tuna and he was close to our position. As soon as we got there we started what would be a two and a half hour battle with 2 bigeyes. Andy and Ronnie did a great job and we landed both fish. Ronnie's was 149 lbs and Andy's fish was 178 lbs. Out total tuna weight for the day was 547 lbs. Thanks.
Friday
We fished 60 miles to the norteast today. We found a real pretty grass line up there and caught a limit of nice size bailer dolphin with a few gaffers mixed in. Later on we saw 1 blue marlin in the spread but he was not interested in what we had to offer! Forgot the camera today......Clark, I got your email, but you didnt leave a return email address. If you have pictures of your catch email them to: samanna@samannasportfishing.com Thanks

Wednesday
We fished with Brian McAndrew and his group today. It was a pretty day, calm seas and overcast. We found a piece of "float" and the first dolphin caught around it was a 35lb citation... We worked on the school after that and ended up with a nice catch of dolphin on light tackle. We put the trolling spread back out and then Will released a white marlin before the winds picked up and we headed home. Thanks.

Friday
Fun fishing with alot of marlin action today. We started off with Bunny catching her first ever sailfish. That catch earned her a NC citation. Denise Adams caught a white marlin, which puts her only a sailfish away from a billfish grand slam with us for the season. We had several other marlin shots and sightings throughout the day. We made the switch to circle hooks, and they proved themselves by hooking each fish right in the corner of the jaw for an unharmed release. Thanks

Tropicbird
Wednesday was a pretty day on the water with a make-up group. We started off with our marlin gear out and soon hooked a tuna. Imagine that... We caught the tuna and then a dolphin. While trolling around we had an encounter with a White-tailed Tropicbird (Phaethon lepturus). A rarely seen bird off the carolina coast. He hung around the boat for a few minutes and let us get a good look at him. If you enlarge the picture above you can see the bird. We finished off the trip catching a few tilefish. Thanks

"We better catch some Hucking fish"
Wes Allison and his crew talked about a tuna all day and got thier wish at about 1 o'clock. We were fishing for dolphin/sailfish when three of our dink rods bent over. The first fish was a bonita. An hour later the next two came up to be 45lb tunas on 25lb test! Good job by the anglers on a rough day. Thanks.
